Companion Animal Registration

All dogs and cats born or who have changed owners are required to be microchipped and

lifetime registered

Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world. For the vast majority of us our dogs and cats are our friends and companions. They are much loved members of our families..

The Companion Animals Act, is designed to benefit pets, their owners and the wider community.  It provides for a permanent identification and lifetime registration system which greatly assists authorities in returning lost and injured animals to their owners. It provides NSW councils with a more effective means of keeping track of dogs and cats for the benefit of the wider community

Dogs must wear a collar with a tag which shows the name of the dog and the address or telephone number of the owner of the dog, as well as a registration tag. Cats must have some form of identification which allows the owner to be contacted, and owners are encouraged to train their cat to wear a collar
